about using ChatGPT
for academic writing.

With the development of artificial intelligence, ChatGPT has become a widely used tool in academic writing. It assists users with brainstorming, drafting, proofreading, and paraphrasing, offering a more efficient writing process. According to Tai et al, ChatGPT can help address linguistic injustice by providing non-native English speakers with improved language support. However, its use also raises concerns about academic integrity, critical thinking, and overreliance on AI-generated content. In a nutshell, I argue that ChatGPT has the potential to enhance academic writing if use it correctly, but it also has the risks that tests our independent critical learning and ethical use.

One of the biggest advantages of ChatGPT is its ability to generate article that increasing efficiency in academic writing. For example, ChatGPT helps users to generate their work more quickly than human handwriting. As Tai et al point out, ChatGPT can support researchers by generating outlines, summarizing content, and offering language suggestions. Moreover, if give it detailed and precise instructions such as requesting references with accurate website code, it can provide reliable information that expands a writer’s understanding of a knowledge. This function allows users to write an article and refine their arguments more effectively.

Another significant benefit of ChatGPT is its potential to address linguistic injustice in academic publishing. Many non-native English speakers face difficulties in expressing their ideas due to language barriers, which can affect their ability to publish research in foreign countries. However, ChatGPT can make clear argument without altering the core message for the researchers. This advantage makes academic writing more comprehensive and ensures that valuable research can be understand.

Although AI can provide efficient ability to generate article, students and researchers may lose the ability to think critically and develop their own writing skills.  From my experience, I have seen many classmates over rely on ChatGPT to finish their academic assignments. Also, as Tai et al mention, academic integrity is a major concern, as AI-generated content may bypass plagiarism detection tools when users apply synonyms to disguise AI-assisted writing. This highlights the need for users to analyze and evaluate information independently.

In order to avoid plagiarism while using ChatGPT, students and researchers must develop strategies to use it responsibly. By understanding the consequences of over reliance on AI, and then set rules for ourself, we can eventually prevent overusing of AI. Last but not least, schools should provide AI literacy courses to educate students on ethical AI usage and the importance of maintaining originality in academic work.

In conclusion, ChatGPT is a powerful tool and follows the user's instructions to complete the tasks. However, its misuse could lead to ethical concerns, over reliance on AI, and a decline in critical thinking skills. As AI technology continues to take advanced, it is crucial to establish self-discipline and responsible usage. By sharpen our own writing and reasoning abilities while integrating AI as a supportive tool, we can use AI to complete academic works efficiently, while also taking care of both academic integrity.
